Preparing for a Substitute Teacher
During Bridges workshops, teachers offer advice on preparing lessons for a substitute teacher. Here are a few of their tips...
- Planning a Bridges Training? Consider including substitutes in Bridges Getting Started or Ongoing Support workshops. Alternately, invite substitutes to watch Bridges lessons being taught in the classroom.
- Need a quick lesson plan? Assign pages from student Practice Books. These free student books can be downloaded from the catalog. The Practice Books are designed to provide students with extra practice in key skill areas. It may serve as a source of skill review, pencil-and-paper assessment, preparation for standardized testing, and/or differentiated instruction. At the top of each page you'll find a recommendation as to where the lesson fits into the curriculum such as "Use anytime after Bridges, Unit 1, Session 21."
- Since students are familiar with the activities and routine, allow them to spend a full day with Work Places.
- Have the class spend a day catching up with Number Corner components. After the first several days of each month, students are familiar with Number Corner and can help to explain activities.
