Questioning Strategies (with English/Spanish pdfs)
Certain questions are particularly effective in empowering our students as members of a community of math learners. When posted in the classroom, questions might first serve as a reminder for teachers. Over time, however, as students hear teachers utilizing the questions, they also begin to use them with classmates. In a Bridges classroom, students become increasingly skillful at sharing their thinking, nurtured by teachers' sincere respect and genuine interest.
We've included pdfs for questions that you might want to post in your classroom. Many teachers choose to post them in the Number Corner area.
We are grateful to Martha Frack from Newberg Public Schools who translated the questions into Spanish. Questions are available as follows:

Mike, thank you! I have been wanting to have questioning strategies up around my room to remind myself to use them FOR YEARS. I appreciate this resource more than I can say. I love that it is in both English and Spanish. Thank you!
Mike Wong, long time MLC consultant, has always talked about using genuine questioning posters and shares that they are very effective when placed all around the room, so whether you are standing up in front of the Number Corner or working with a student or group of students at their desks or at workplaces, you can glance up and choose a question. It takes time and self-training to begin to naturally use the genuine questions and having them all around the room is extremely helpful. He also suggests that you get your students to use the questions in their student-to-student discourse so the posters are great reminders for teachers and students! Thanks for sharing!
