Five & Ten Frame Online Games

Ten frames serve as a key visual model in kindergarten and first grade, allowing children to count objects in an organized way. Illuminations, a National Council of Teachers of Mathematics website, offers several ten frame games giving students practice in counting and addition. If students aren't quite ready for ten frames, the site also includes the same set of games using a five frame.

In both games, players choose from a variety of playing pieces including: circles, stars, ladybugs, and apples.

Games include:

  • How many?: identify the number of objects or empty squares
  • Build: move the correct number of objects to the frame
  • Fill: add the correct number of objects to the partially filled frame
  • Add: answer a basic addition problem using the frame

The online games could serve as a source of additional practice in school or at home.
