Bridges Grade 1 Advice for Unit 5

I hope you’ve started Geometry by now! If you’re on track you’ve probably just begun Unit 5 about the time you receive this newsletter.
 
If you are in a state with a Supplement, be sure to look at the new Unit Planners found around page 10 of your supplement, inserting these sessions at the appropriate times. For example, some states have 3D geometry sessions inserted this month.

Bridges Grade 2 Advice for Unit 6

If you’ve kept to the yearly schedule found in Getting Started on page 23, you should be about a week away from finishing Unit 5, branching into Larger Numbers. The first year doing 2nd grade Bridges sometimes finds teachers significantly behind at this point. What should you do if you are closer to the beginning of Unit 5 as far as planning for the rest of the year?

Number Corner Grade K Advice for April

As in all months since October, you now have two choices of calendar markers. You can make the wonderful Dog Cat markers with your kids as described in your Teachers Guide  or you can download (or purchase) the new Set D8 Measurement - Measuring Tools. Skills in D8 are to identify the appropriate instruments used to measure time, weight, temperature, and length, read aloud numerals from 0 to 31 and identify ordinal positions through the 31st.


Comparing Multiples on a 0-99 Grid

In Bridges Grade 3, Unit 4: Session 18, students mark the counting patterns for the numbers 2-10 on overhead 0-99 Grids, comparing and contrasting the products in the patterns to see which products are common to more than 2 factors. Here's an alternate idea to the overhead grids that you might like to try.


Bridges Grade K Advice for Sessions 95-107

It’s been my experience that many kindergarten teachers using Bridges in their first year can struggle to keep to the schedule in the Planning Guide (Getting Started, page 242). If you’re behind, realize that the Planning Guide suggests doing only 7 actual lessons in April after Number Corner. All the rest are Work Place days, conferences, and Catch Your Breath days. I was able to get in 10 sessions in April.
